A full week indeed

Monday: was a long day firstly I went t0 Rushcutters Bay to look at an old Etchell it needed a lot of work to bring it back to a condition that I could use for this season, I’ll be land bound for another year by the look of it.

Then I had to go to Kemps Creek way out west to pick up a saw for some more bookshelves that I want to build in the future, after that the times my own.

I called into the Bookplate bookshop at Hornsby. They have a very good stock of books, also a very capable & helpful staff.  I  saw some nice books but refrained from buying after all I have just spent my budget on things other than books today. A quick lunch and up the F3 Freeway to Morisset

Tuesday: This started like most days get in there early a man wants a book Cancerproof Your Body by Ross Horne. He goes on to state that he wants another 10 years, he also mentions that he belongs to C.A.S.S. the Cowboy Action Shooting Society If your like me I didn’t know that or really care, but the thing is that he likes to do things that are that good for him. I can imagine how he would look dressed up in all of the gear, with his Buffalo Bill hair & Moustache, a sight to behold him and another 50 + cowboys armed to the teeth.

Reminds me of a saying my dad used to say Whats a cowboys ambition?

The very next customer wanted a  copy of a James Redfield book The Celestine Prophecy plus some of his other books. I was privledged to get a run down on how they can help you in your personal life, the passion that she brought to the subject was truly inspiring, very good I asked her to write some reviews so I hope she does.

I also have to go to Tanilba Bay later today, then there is birthday party for one of our colleagues tonight happy birthday Linda.S.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars An old favorite a in my misspent youth. But it is now a highly collectable book if can find one. View all my reviews >>

It’s so funny to look back and see what I used to read. as I remember it was a book about a traveling Motocross teacher. The little fellow went on to become a world champion, good read.

Dinkum Aussie Oddities by Alan Eager

Another book that just came across my bench today.

Dinkum Aussie Oddities it’s chock full of weird and wonderful things, mostly man made contraptions, that supposedly normal Aussie’s make in their quest either sell something or just be different.

From the J.F.Furphy’s water cart, made of cast iron included in a shorthand is a message.

“Water is gift of God, but beer and whiskey are concoctions of the devil-Go fetch me a drink of water”

Furfhy, is Australian slang for a rumour, or an erroneous or improbable story.

You can find copies at Bookfinder.com Here are some pictures of the things we make. from Big Pigs to Big Bananas we do it all.

I wonder why we tend to do that?

Trafficking in Old Books by Anthony Marshall

When I first thought about starting a new career a  sea change or whatever you want to call it. I started to look for books to tell me about how to do it. I went to all the usual places on the internet. In my quest for further knowledge, one of the books I found was this book.

Trafficking in Old Books by Anthony Marshall,

From memory it said something to the effect, that it wasn’t a book to get to learn about selling books, more it was a book about the funny things that happen, the characters, the things that people ask you.

(At this stage I knew nothing of the people that I would be so lucky to meet, the friends that I would make.)

Anthony even provided some answers, that would have taken years for me to acquire, every page I read had a snippet of information,  but for me it was a boon for it richness in details about other books, subjects, I either new little about nor really cared about, but when you want to sell books, why does the subject matter?

Besides having to learn about new ideas, thoughts, at least for me was what really is the fun in doing this. The chance to talk to people that know these facts simply make it fun & perhaps can tell you in another fashion from the normal way you get it is just what some of us need.  Its for me the fun I see in people getting the book they want.

Anthony now runs a bookshop in Melbourne although I’m not sure if he’s still there now. I think that he gets to escape from the shop a bit more than me.  But in if your down that way I must recommend it to you it’s called
